BIOGRAPHY OF LUCIO MUÑOZ: Madrid, 1929-1998
Renowned Spanish painter and graphic artist, Lucio Muñoz was one of the great creators of contemporary painting. His work is mostly colorist, although with a predominance of black, which represents an exponent of the purest informalism. In fact, Lucio Muñoz was related to the El Paso group, although he was not part of it.
He studied at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid, where he was a disciple of Eduardo Chicharro. After his academic training, he came into contact with Madrid realists such as Antonio López, the López Hernández brothers and his future wife, Amalia Avia, also a painter. With a scholarship from the French government in 1956, Muñoz had the opportunity to get to know Art Autre, the work of Tàpies and Dubuffet.
More than eighty solo and group exhibitions of his work have been held in different cities in Spain, Europe and America. He participated in the XXX Venice Biennial and in important international exhibitions such as those held in New York at the Guggenheim Museum and the MOMA. Lucio Muñoz died in 1998.
