JOAQUIM CHANCHO BIOGRAPHY

Joaquim Chancho, born in Riudoms, Tarragona, in 1943, is an outstanding artist whose work is characterized by its minimalist approach and, at the same time, for being rich, pure, rhythmic and intense. Throughout his career, he has explored the intersection between gesture and geometry, creating successive sequences that incorporate symbolic and calligraphic elements. In recent years, he has increasingly focused on the surface of the painting as pure abstraction.

Chancho's work immerses us in painting in its most refined state, where line becomes sign and color becomes intense and essential vibration. This juxtaposition sometimes brings us closer to visual fields of stillness and silence, while at other times generates clear expressive tensions, where the material density of oil color transforms the brushstroke into gesture.

Joaquim Chancho's work is part of prominent national and international collections, including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, the MACBA, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, the Juan March Foundation in Madrid, the Centro Atlántico de Arte Contemporáneo in Las Palmas and the La Caixa Foundation in Barcelona. His contribution to contemporary art is appreciated for its unique fusion of minimalism and expressiveness.
